Dark Chocolate + Orange Bliss Balls

Energy balls are my go to, and can even feature as mini-meal replacements sometimes if a day turns out to be particularly busy. So finding ways to make them more exciting and maybe even a little indulgent is always in the agenda. Chocolate is always the perfect antidote for any kind of day, so a doubled up version of dark chocolate could only be pure bliss. With chocolate’s perfect fruit friend, orange, this version is an absolute bomb.

Ingredients

For the balls

  • 135g soft dates, pitted

  • 90g 70% dark chocolate, melted

  • Handful almonds

  • 1 tbsp ground almonds

  • 1/2 tsp orange extract

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder

For the coating

  • 90g 70% dark chocolate, melted

  • Zest of 1/2 orange

Method of Preparation

  1. Blend all the ingredients for the balls in a food processor, till it comes together well and can bind. Form into little balls.

  2. Melt the dark chocolate for the coating in a double boiler. Using a spoon, dip each ball into the melted chocolate, roll and allow it to coat completely before transferring onto a parchment-lined tray. Repeat for all the balls. Sprinkle over the orange zest. Transfer to the refrigerator to allow the chocolate to set for 1-2 hours.

  3. And, enjoy!

Note: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
